Barrett Gets Three In Blueys Sixth Straight Win

MatchReportVikings have registered their sixth consecutive win for 2017 with a 33 – 10 bonus point win against a gallant Kiama Cows outfit at Kiama Showground. Holding a narrow 14 – 10 lead at the break the Blueys went right on with the job in the second half running up nineteen unanswered points. Fullback Andrew Barrett was at his brilliant attacking best running in three tries on the back of some clever work from his inside backs, in particular Cockatoo rep Tommy Sawden.

With another Cockatoo Rep, Leighton Cowley leading the charge for the Cows, Vikings defence was asked plenty of questions throughout the match. The Blueys defence highlighted today by some big hits from prop Joshua Wigmore has been a feature of the sides success so far this year and ultimately won out in today’s match.

The match started at pace with both sides showing early their intention to let the ball do the work. Andrew Barrett created his first try by sweeping into the Blueys backline from twenty out to score untouched wide on the left. With Tommy Sawden converting Vikings hit the lead 7 – 0.

Kiama had the better of play over the next twenty minutes putting on two tries to take the lead as the Blueys struggled to overcome some spirited play from the Cows. After twenty minutes of play Kiama fullback Aisake Tuevu crossed for his sides opening try after some strong running from centre Kadin Cowley. Minutes later, Tuevu and Cowley combined again to create a chance for Flanker Michael Kauter to score but the usually reliable Kauter fumbled the ball over the line.
