Camden Rugby Seniors at the Southern Highland 7’s

Camden Rugby sent a senior’s team to the Southern Highland 7’s at Bowral Rugby Club on the October long weekend.

Out of the 16 teams entered only 3 country teams took part with the rest of the competition coming from either Fijian based , Shute Shield teams or NSW/ACT development sides.

The first game was an early start at 8am where the host side was ready to take the home field advantage which saw us going down to Bowral 14-10, missed conversions being the difference.

Our second game was up against the Menai Warriors featuring ex ram Tyler Aitken, which saw our boys win well 33-5.

Our third pool game was against Kookaburras Gold an ACT development side who were well drilled and an experienced 7’s team. We went down 24-14.

Winning against Menai saw us move past the pool stage and up against a team called Silktails, which featured heavily with Fijian players. It was a very tightly contested match with the final result being 22-21. The Silktails went on to win the Bowl.

The boys performed well throughout the day and did very well to earn a spot in the bowl. A big thanks to all the efforts of Roland ‘Maxy’ Lilo who has been putting the Camden boys through sevens training over the past month. Well done to all the boys who put the black and gold jersey on in our first off season comp as always you did the club proud! Our next 7’s competition isn’t until the 12th of November at the Fishers Ghost Competition hosted by Campbelltown Harelquins.

All the boys are continuing to have a run around and play touch football every Thursday from 6:30pm, all players are encouraged to come down and get involved.
